7 Reasons Why Adults May Seek Out Treatment with MNRI

1. If you were born c-section, induced, born pre-mature, experienced lack of oxygen, had a prolonged birth or any other birth-related trauma
The reflexes that the Masgutova Method addresses will begin developing as early as 6 weeks in utero and you would have used these reflexes during the birth process. If you experienced something out of the normal birth process then the brain and body is very likely stressed which would cause related reflexes to be underdeveloped. These undeveloped reflexes may be causing a lot of the “symptoms” you are experiencing today as they would affect how you move, process the environment around you, hold your posture, and more.

2. If you are tight/holding a lot of tension/inflexible
Shen the body does not feel safe if will tense up and restrict movement. You may notice this if you are watching a movie that scares you. You will likely tense your shoulders, curl into a ball or squeeze in tight to your partner. When the brain and body are caught in a chronically stressed state as a result of a trauma (could be a very minor trauma such as tripping of a curb), it will act as though you are still in an environment when and where that trauma occurred until you can prove that you are safe. When you experienced that trauma your reflexes would have caused you to react. Remember a time when someone scared you around the corner and you jumped, maybe even moving in to hit them? By working with these reflexes, we can prove to your body that you are safe and thereby releasing the tension in your body.
3. If you have experienced known trauma
I sort of answered this one with #2. But I want to reiterate that if you know of a trauma your body has experienced then we need to take the time to calm the system down. These are typically the more obvious traumas such as a car accident, war experience, abuse, etc. We can meet the body where it is and help it from there to integrate these reflexes and allow for appropriate reactions to the stimuluses in your environment.
4. If you have experienced a stroke/seizure/concussion
Anytime that anyone experiences any type of brain damage, it is very likely that the neurological system and therefore reflexes are affected. Remember that these reflexes we work with at Integrate and Thrive are those that help our basic bodily functions: speech, walking, posture, brain processing, learning ability, etc. By working to integrate these primary reflexes we can speed up the recovery process by strengthening the nervous system and increasing the neuroplasticity of the brain.
5. If you have had limited success in terms of limited ROM/joint discomfort with other modalities (chiro, massage, PT, etc.)
The MNRI method works to improve the neurological foundation of the body. This foundation is the basis of all of our movements. If you find yourself stuck and unable to overcome an exercise or tight muscle it may be because the foundation of that movement has not fully integrated. In order to get the fundamentals of movement, posture, or other bodily functions you have to have a strong base. This base is made up of the reflexes that the Masgutova Method addresses. You improve your foundation, you improve the efficiency of your movements. This Method works well in conjunction with other modalities, so if you are getting some progress with other modalities there is no need to stop them. Adding in this method will likely speed up your results.

6. If you experience repeated injuries (ex. sprained ankles, pulling muscles in back)
Similar to the response of #5, these reflexes need to be fully integrated for you to have maximum efficiency in your movements. The reflexes we work with are subconscious in nature. When you take a step do you think of the stability of your ankles or back or making sure your head is upright each time? I’m going to safely assume that you do not. So let your reflexes do their job for you. By fully integrating these reflexes, your body can appropriately respond to the changing environment around you, allowing your body to stay safe and stable. The area in which your repetitive injury is will provide direction on which reflexes are likely the culprit.
7. If you do not feel like you have good posture
As you have already read, these reflexes affect the way that you hold yourself. You cannot consciously think about your posture at all points of your day - that is the job of the unconscious brain. It will do its best with the tools that it has but if there is an under developed tool then you might not be totally aligned. If you are consistently in a bad posture, then that constant incorrect movement is likely going to cause discomfort down the road if it hasn't already. By helping these reflexes fully develop, we can improve the tools that you have - giving your body an improved ability to react to the environment around you causing you to have better posture and move better.
