Shelby was introduced to a two and a half year old boy who was hyperactive and not yet talking. He could make noises but was not yet forming words. This means that this boy was over a year behind in this developmental category. Mom had been taking him to speech for a long time but there was not much progress made. After just a month and a half of starting with Shelby, the little boy began trying to form words. After another month, he was clearly saying words: reading his colors, counting, singing along with shows, and more.

They have also found improvements with his hyperactivity. Not long into working with Shelby, this boy sat still for the doctor while getting his ear examined - something mom said would have never happened before. He is also is responding better to his name at home.
What did Shelby do to make such quick progress all of a sudden?
The reflexes that Shelby works with are the primary reflexes. Meaning that they are the foundation for all that we do including speech. By integrating this boy’s basic reflexes, they were able to integrate into more complicated actions that we do as we grow up and develop - including speech.
As for the improvement with hyperactivity, this boy’s sensory system was in overload. He couldn’t calmly process all that was going on around him (colors, lights, feeling of the floor, a breeze, etc.). As we have been working with his sensory system and reflexes, his brain becomes more efficient at processing what is happening around him and will elicit an appropriate response. Therefore, he appears more calm - a huge relief for any parent!

That’s great… but what is actually causing him to talk all of a sudden?
Here is an analogy that may make it more clear for you: imagine trying to find a snack in a messy pantry compared to an organized one. Basically, the work that Shelby does organizes the pantry (aka. the child’s brain). Making it easier for them to process the constant barrage of information being thrown at them all day long because they can find the information/response they need more quickly instead of making do with whatever they find first.
Another way to think about it… you need to pick up a friend from the airport. You can leave your house, go around the city three times, cruise down main street, and then head to the airport. Or you can go straight from your house to the airport. While both scenarios will get you to the airport, there is one way that is obviously more streamlined than the other. The work that Shelby is doing is helping to streamline the brain’s processing making the body appear more calm.
This young child has found great success with this work that will only help to propel him forward in the future. With this continued work, speech is becoming more clear, he is able to interpret and react to facial expressions, he his able to express his emotions better, sit still and not be constantly entertained and is becoming more curious about the world around him. Imagine how much of a difference this work is making just for his parents alone! Now we are off to find other families struggling with a similar scenario - help us out, let a parent know that we exist and can truly help their child from the ground up without years of therapy!
