What If The Problem Isn't The Problem?

Many (if not all) traditional therapies are trying to help the symptom, not trying to figure out why the symptom occurs in the first place. The work I do has quite a different approach. After learning MNRI it is hard to not look at the world through a lens of reflexes. When you know what you are looking for it is pretty obvious to find them - or a lack of them - while you are out and about.
I’d like to break down the following quote from Pamala Curlee, co-founder of MNRI, to help explain what I mean… “Reflex is not function. Reflex is the foundation to function.”
Functions are the outputs, the parts that we see, the symptoms people complain about like a tight muscle, inability to sleep, dysregulated eye sight, discomfort in their back, etc.
Here are a few examples of my thought process when people come to me with these complaints…
I don’t care to relax the tight muscles….

I’m trying to figure out why it is being told to be tight in the first place
I don’t care that the child’s handwriting isn’t readable…
I’m trying to figure out what stopped the development of that fine motor skill
I’m not trying to regulate hormones…
I’m trying to figure out what is stopping them from regulating themselves
I am not trying to help someone sleep…
I’m trying to figure out why the body is being told it cannot relax to allow for good sleep
I am not going to teach you how to change your environment to be quieter for the child that gets overstimulated in loud places…
I am trying to figure out why their body cannot process the loud noises on its own

I am not going to tell someone to find a shoe that they can wear constantly (or fit them for orthotics) to help their foot pain...
I am trying to figure out why their foot can’t be flexible and adapt to the ground or shoe they have
I am not trying to tutor a child in math…
I am trying to figure out why they cannot naturally comprehend it on their own or with minimal teaching
All of these functions are things we have the genetic ability to do… so what stopped the genes from reaching their potential?
These reflexes that MNRI works with are genetically encoded, so you’ll be hard pressed to find a function that doesn’t involve a reflex to at least some degree.

Contact us to see if these reflexes are part of what is missing from your ability to function like you should.
